Ok, this isn’t really IT related, but it is something that drives me nuts – ridiculously loud commercials. This past Wednesday the Senate unanimously passed a bill that will require TV commercials to be the same volume as the programs they interrupt. Somewhat IT related, hopefully this also translates to online TV programming (Hulu, etc.) which is becoming a more prevalent alternative to traditional Cable or Satellite broadcasting.

Of course in US political tradition there is a small hiccup that needs to be worked out between the House and Senate version of the bill, and hopefully this doesn’t cause too much of a problem come this November.

The Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday to require television stations and cable companies to keep commercials at the same volume as the programs they interrupt.

The House has passed similar legislation. Before it can become law, minor differences between the two versions have to be worked out when Congress returns to Washington after the Nov. 2 election.
